MARANGU Route (6 Days)
The marangu route, which is also known as the Coca-Cola route is the oldest route up Mount Kilimanjaro and one of the most popular one. During the rainy season, it’s a good option for climbing Kilimanjaro, Mid-March to late May, and late October to late December because the hurts will keep you dry and warm. The root is available in 6days with the second one being much less difficult.

SCHEDULE
Day 1: From the Kilimanjaro National Park Gate to Mandara Hut
- Rising: 5,500 ft / 1,700 m to 9,000 ft / 2,740 m
- Stretch: 7 km
- Meals: Lunch, Dinner
- Shelter: Mandara Hut
After breakfast and consultation, a driver from Di African Tours will drive you to the Kilimanjaro National Park Gate (45 minutes). Hikers will be required to register and begin the climb. Hikers will walk through the rainforest to the Mandara Hut.
Day 2: Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut
- Rising: 9,000 ft / 2,700 m to 12,100 ft / 3,700 m
- Stretch: 11 km
- Habitat: Heathland/Moorland
- Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
- Shelter: Horombo Hut
Hikers will leave the openings of the rainforest and follow an ascending course to the Horombo camping area. The views from Kibo and Mawenzi’s summit are amazing. Hikers may begin to feel the effects of the elevation gain.
Day 3: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut
- Rising: 12,100 ft / 3,700 m to 15,400 ft / 4,700 m
- Stretch: 10 km
- Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
- Shelter: Kibo Hut
After climbing up the Marangu Route, we reach the last watering point, crossing the saddle of Kilimanjaro between the peaks of Kibo and Mawenzi. Hikers eat, relax, and prepare for the summit climb.
Day 4: Kibo Hut to Summit, then Horombo Hut
- Rising: 15,400 ft / 4,700 m to 19,300 ft / 5,895 m, then 19,300 ft / 5,895 m to 12,100 ft / 3,700 m
- Stretch: 4 km up / 14 km down
- Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
- Shelter: Horombo Hut
We now hike and climb to Uhuru Peak, Africa’s highest peak. At every turn, there are spectacular and breathtaking views. From here, we descend, stopping for lunch and a rest at Kibo before heading back to the Horombo camping site. In the dark, this climb to the summit is possible with headlamps or flashlights. This is by far the most difficult part of the journey. At this point, hikers should not forget to take their photos. Hikers are best served by going slowly and maintaining a positive attitude to reach the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest point.
Day 5: Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate, then to Moshi
Though it’s a long trek, hikers should worry less as it is mostly downhill today.
